Shanghai, China – September 10, 2026 – MPMC, whose HBD-A Series battery energy storage systems span 125 kW to 1,125 kW AC output and 261 kWh to 2,170 kWh capacity per unit, has built a documented commercial and industrial storage track record spanning grid-connected frequency regulation in Europe, a multi-site hybrid microgrid in East Africa, and — most recently — a completed hybrid power deployment at an off-grid concrete batching operation in Dubai, where ten stations combining MPMC’s HBD-500-1000 battery energy storage system with diesel generator sets have delivered a documented 20 percent reduction in operating expenditure through reduced fuel consumption and extended generator maintenance intervals.

Ten Stations, One Coordinated Control Logic

Each of the ten Dubai stations pairs one HBD-500-1000 unit, rated at 500 kW and 1,045 kWh, with three 500 kVA generator sets powered by Perkins 2506D-E15TAG2 Tier 3 engines, operating continuously in ambient temperatures of 45 to 50°C against a measured load profile with a peak of 847.8 kW, an average of 409.0 kW, and a maximum motor-start load of 185.0 kW. MPMC’s EMS coordinates the system through a three-phase control logic: the battery discharges while a single genset runs at its optimal 75 percent load point, multiple gensets run in parallel to recharge the battery at up to 500 kW when needed, and the system falls back to mutual redundancy between units in the event of a fault.

Quantified Fuel and Cost Savings

MPMC reports the hybrid configuration delivers daily fuel savings of 254.13 litres per station, a 10.56 percent reduction against a diesel-only baseline, translating to an estimated annual saving of approximately 92,757 litres of fuel and roughly USD 70,496 per station at USD 0.76 per litre. Across the ten-station installation, MPMC states the combined effect is an approximate 20 percent reduction in overall operating expenditure, alongside an estimated two-to-three-year extension in generator overhaul life from reduced runtime at partial load.

The Underlying Mechanism

The saving is driven by keeping each station’s generator sets close to their most fuel-efficient operating point. A diesel engine’s specific fuel consumption rises significantly when running below roughly 25 percent load, which is common on a batching plant’s intermittent, motor-start-heavy load profile if sized for peak demand alone. By allowing the HBD-500-1000 to absorb load fluctuations and motor-start spikes while the genset holds a steady 75 percent load, the hybrid configuration avoids the low-load fuel-efficiency penalty a diesel-only system would otherwise incur across most of its operating hours.

The Same Architecture at Grid Scale in Europe and East Africa

MPMC’s Hungary and Netherlands deployments apply the same HBD-A battery platform to a different problem: grid frequency regulation, peak shaving, and load balancing for grid operators rather than fuel savings for an off-grid industrial site, with the Hungary installation built from two HBD-500-1000 and three HBD-1000-2000 units for a combined 8 MWh capacity. In Kenya, four sites each combining more than 1 MW of solar PV, at least 1 MWh of battery storage, and diesel genset backup demonstrate the same coordination logic applied to a hybrid, partially off-grid microgrid rather than a single industrial site or a fully grid-connected installation.

A Basis for Evaluating a Hybrid Retrofit

Concrete batching is exactly the kind of intermittent, motor-heavy load profile where a diesel-only system spends most of its time at its least efficient operating point. Publishing the actual fuel, cost, and maintenance-interval numbers from ten working stations, rather than a single pilot unit, and setting that result alongside grid-scale deployments in Hungary, the Netherlands, and Kenya, gives operators evaluating a hybrid retrofit — whether for cost reduction, grid services revenue, or off-grid reliability — a realistic, multi-project basis for the decision rather than a single case study.
